If you’re not using video in your classroom, you’re WAY behind the curve at this point in the edu-game.
Right now, 91% of students in the US ages 13-17 use YouTube. 91%.
The percentage of students in your classroom who are watching online video is likely much higher than the percentage of students in your classroom who care about the quadratic equation.
You know it’s true, you just don’t want to admit it.
It’s time you started using video in your classroom to at least SOME degree. Your students watch videos all the time. Videos are instant engagement for many of them because the “new” of online video still hasn’t worn off yet.
But… how do you use videos in a responsible way? Sure you can just plop kids down in front of a computer and send them on their way. You might even have them complete some sort of exit ticket/quiz/assessment after watching the video to measure their engagement.
How do you know if they actually WATCHED the video? How many times did they watch it? Did they watch the whole thing? Did they learn anything from the video?
Wouldn’t you like to provide some supports within a video for students that may be struggling? Wouldn’t it be nice to get students to interact with a video rather than just watching? Would you like to know how many times they are interacting with a video?
Would you like to assess their learning before they get done watching the video, giving them questions that are relevant to the topic just discussed in the video?
RooClick is a new company focusing on video in education. Their service allows teachers to either upload their own videos or use YouTube videos to engage students. RooClick allows you to embed questions or links to other websites for students to visit, and pauses the video until they return.
They even offer a mobile video player that allows students to click on the links and questions in the video on ANY device, including iOS devices.
In this short video, I show you how to get signed up for a RooClick account and how the interface works. You can use videos that have already been added to RooClick or upload your own. More features are planned for the near future than what you will see here.
I encourage you to sign up for RooClick today for FREE and add a video to share with your students this week.
